There are few places more chill-inducing than old abandoned hospitals, especially those that housed sanatoriums within their walls. The abandoned Nazareth Hospital in Mineral Wells, Texas, is sure to spark fear and apprehension in even the most seasoned of ghost hunters.
It’s dark and it’s dilapidated and who only knows how many souls took their last breath within its walls. Not only did the Nazareth Hospital once have its own sanatorium but this locked and isolated ward is down in the basement, of all places.
The mysteries that are going to interest you, the ghost hunter, as you walk the corridors and step into its chilly rooms, are the more ethereal kind and there are plenty of them.
There are many manifestations reported around the building, including wheelchairs squeaking, cries of pain, the smell of blood and the spirits of nuns and people in white gowns. Most often seen is what many describe as a “ghostly blue nun,” in parts of the hospital. And, lights are seen going on and off across the building, even on floors that no longer have power.
Ready to interact with the spirits of the hospital’s long-dead patients and their carers?
Be careful when climbing the stairs, a spirit who has identified himself simply as “Vern,” likes to trip visitors on the stairs. Everyone is encouraged to always hold the handrail tightly and watch out for Vern.
Oh, and you might need some warm clothing, even in the Texas heat the Nazareth Hospital is cold, cold, cold, always registering 20 to 40 degrees cooler than outside, within its walls.

Event Time: 8:00 PM – 2:00 AM
Meet up at the location at the earliest 7:30 PM. There is ample parking available at the venue itself.
What to Bring?
Please bring with you a form of photo ID, and a printed off booking confirmation email (or show this on your phone).
We will be providing you with paranormal equipment to use, however, we will need something of value per group to hold onto as collateral (phone, car keys, watch, etc.)
We will be providing snacks and drinks at intervals throughout the night.
And of course, bring your phone/camera with you, the more pictures we have the better chance we have of capturing something!
Other than that, just yourself and an open mind!
Nazareth Hospital History
The Nazareth Hospital was bought by nuns, the Holy Sisters of Nazareth, in 1931 for $135,000 the equivalent of over $2 million today. The six sisters moved into the top floor of the hospital to better serve the patients. The hospital began with the sisters, one registered nurse, a janitor, and twelve doctors and operated 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
At first, almost half the hospital’s patients were charity cases and a further quarter only partly paying patients. It’s said that all the hospital equipment, including linens, was used for three times longer than it should have been in order to save money.
It’s assumed the building itself was constructed between 1885 and 1925 but its actual origins are as yet unknown, another mystery of the Nazareth Hospital.
Further History
The building that became the Nazareth Hospital is likely to have been built between 1885 and 1925 but researchers are struggling to put a definitive date and purpose to the building. The date it finally closed is also uncertain. And, few photographs appear to exist of the hospital inside, while it was in operation.
The Nazareth Hospital was open between 1931 and 1956, its 25-year anniversary was celebrated but then it finally closed sometime in the 1960s. The clinic itself moved to the nearby Crazy Hotel and was there until 2009.
From the late 1980s to the 1990s the old Nazareth Hotel building was used for the Palo Pinto County Service Corporation including its Head Start, JTPA, Emergency Food Program, Civil Service, Social Security, and its Family Planning Center, according to reports.
Though the Holy Sisters of the Nazareth began with just six sisters, one nurse and twelve doctors they expanded in 1939 to thirteen sisters, two of which were nurses and one an anaesthetist. They also grew to four registered nurses, two nurses’ aids and two handy men as the hospital expanded to a significant size facility.
In 1931 a Women’s Auxiliary was established to aid the running of the hospital and to help the patients who couldn’t pay.

What Should I Expect on a Ghost Hunt?
Become a paranormal investigator for the night like the TV stars of Most haunted, ghost adventures or TAPS Ghost hunters.
Use some of the specialized equipment and be guided by experienced paranormal investigators who will share their knowledge, techniques and experiences of hunting for ghosts or spirits.
Feel free to bring along any of your own equipment including but not limited to EVP recorders, flashlights, cameras or video cameras.
Bring extra clothing as in some parts old buildings may get cold but please refrain from wearing clothing that can cause distracting sounds. Many old buildings have a story to tell and we will supply them to you along with of course the ghost stories.
There will be breaks and light refreshments are provided.
We are not out to try and convince the world of the existence of an afterlife. That’s for you to decide.
We can be Sceptical and logical yet open to other beliefs and prayers of protection will be carried out.
We do not perform tricks and will not be running around with sheets on our heads!
You will be with like-minded people looking for the answer “is there really an afterlife”?
However much we try unfortunately we can’t guarantee that members of the spirit world will make their presence known but we can at least guarantee that you will experience a fun and interesting night.
Do I receive an actual ticket?
The event is ticketless. Your proof of booking is your booking confirmation email. You will also receive an email with important information prior to your event, usually the week of.
Is there any age limit of who can attend these events?
The age limit is 18 years and over.
Will there be a Medium at the event?
All events listed on Haunted Rooms are hosted by experienced Hosts and Professional Psychic/Clairvoyant Mediums. However sometimes a Medium(s) may not always be present – but as usual, you will be in very safe hands with our experienced Hosts who have a wealth of knowledge and are fully trained in all aspects of professional public ghost hunting events and experience nights.
Can I sleep at an event?
Unless it is otherwise stated, events don’t include sleepover.
Will I see a Ghost?
Unfortunately, the activity will not just happen on command, however using the various experiments and experienced hosts on the events, everything will be done to offer the best chance of spiritual activity.

We had a fun, interactive and interesting night at Edinburgh Manor with Samantha, Mike and crew. They are experienced,... knowledgeable and patient. We tried different methods and equipment interacting with the different spirits still lingering there. Going through the photos we took we actually caught an orb darting from the doorway of the hallway up to the ceiling. It looks uneven and changes shape when it moves and moves with purpose not floating aimlessly like dust. The spirits told us earlier in the night they wanted to play hide and seek and they did! We went to the Bowers Mansion in Palestine. The guides were David, Melissa (new), and I believe the other girl was... Judith. David started with covering rules and discussing the history of the house. Unfortunately, David did not seem to have a good grasp on the history and was unable to give info on family member’s name, how they died or details of the circumstance of each reported death. Felt as if they were flying by the seat of there pants. Judith seemed more knowledgeable but she ran a different group! I did not see, hear, feel, or get touched by a ghost BUT it was super fun having access the Bowers mansion and the surrounding grounds. The snacks and drinks were really good! We used the Necrophonic app in the barn and Sam and our group were able to get amazing responses. I own the app and haven’t been able to get anything like that, so it was incredible getting to see how it should really work. We also got to do the Estes method, which was such a cool experience. I did my first ghost hunt at the old park hotel in Ballinger Texas. It was so much fun and I learned a lot. I had... never done anything like it and wasn’t afraid to ask questions or speak up if I didn’t know what something was. Jenny, Jamie, Chris, and David were great, oh I can’t forget Alice the dog she was the sweetest. Dan was extremely knowledgeable about the hotel and set the tone for the hunt perfectly. The Haunted rooms investigators were so awesome!! They were all very professional and informative. Each investigator took the time to explain their equipment and different ways of investigating. They answered lots of questions for us. They really seem to enjoy sharing all of this information so you can truly get a sense of the paranormal investigations without feeling left out or awkward. We do have a different idea of premier snacks, so be sure to eat well before going to an overnight. They do provide some snacks and drinks to get you through the night which is great. My husband and I went on Halloween (our 3rd wedding anniversary) to do something extraordinary and exciting together.... We were not disappointed! This was our first paranormal investigation and we ended up being gifted with two sites due to Covid-19, the John Wornall and Alexander Majors homes. We researched the houses prior and were extremely fascinated by the incredible history of the homes and their previous residents. Prior to meeting up we were nervous about how cheesy things could be or how many people there might be. We were instantly comforted by Mike, one of our guides who was very knowledgeable and accommodating by sharing his stories about previous experiences and preluding introductions to the other members of the team. I would talk more about the experience we had but everyone’s was unique. I will just say that I had to leave early due to my sudden drain of energy.read more

This was my first ghost hunting trip. I can say I wasn’t the least bit disappointed! I was really scared leading up to... this trip and once I got there Shelly and Andy made me feel so relaxed. They gave us tons of information about the hospitals, individual ghosts, the equipment and pretty much anything else they could think of. Something attached itself to me and they immediately knew what to do. Andy helped me close my third eye and ground myself while Shelly saged me and helped me realize I’m an empath!! Afterwords I felt great for the rest of the night. Especially when Shelly fell off her chair into a puddle of water! I loved this tour so much and I can’t wait til the next one!!read more

my spouse and I were part of the East Texas investigation this past Saturday. we really were amazed on how... professional and informed the team was.we both were touched on the second floor and my spouse caught a few pics I'm still going over our video and audio and other pics but again we enjoyed learning more and being able to use the special tools.the snacks were wonderful and I especially loved the interaction I and my spirit guide had with the child he was alittle intimated by the spirits in the basement and they keep calling his name Robert says hello and that next time he will be more opted to be more helpful. he is more of a protector we will most certainly book another investigation soon.read more

I had amazing experience at the east Texas culture museum. The paranormal investigators were very informative and made... it a fun experience. As we were investigating in small groups we captured a lot of evidence using the equipment that was provided. One moment In particular is when we were walking down from the second story to the first we heard a loud scream from behind us and we were the last group to come down!!! and everyone heard it. We also caught object moving and foot steps on the second story. I would definitely come back ! Thanks to haunted rooms for making it a fun and sanitizing all the equipment and making it a safe environment 🙂read more

We went to the East Texas Culture Museum last night it was so 👌 awesome. They keep us safe always wiping down stuff,... they are very professional . I had some one grab my butt real hard last night turned around and no one was there. Then I seen a shadow figure standing by Andrew why he was doing dowsing rods. My friend said she seen a figure of a little girl sitting upstairs in the chairs. I would give this company 50 stars if I could! My friends and i investigated Yorktown Memorial Hospital on Sept. 5th, this was the first time for us using Haunted... Rooms and you guys didn't disappoint us. The investigators were knowledgeable and had a wide variety of equipment for us to use along to purchase if we wanted. Shelly shared photos and stories of her experiences with us. The old school/museum did not seem to be haunted or spirits were passive. But the two gentlemen were very good at... showing you how to use the equipment. It was difficult to understand them and they needed a microphone but they were willing to explain anything. It was a shame that one of the guests on the tour tried to take over and show us how talented she was. But we just avoided her as much as possible. The facility itself was interesting and has a lot of history. We went back the next day but found out they were closed indefinitely.read more

The tour of the Nazareth Sanitarium in Mineral wells was awesome, we got to see and use... much of the gadgets used by real ghost hunters and even got to investigate on our own. I was skeptical going into this investigation but the activity experienced during this event was amazing and definitely changed my views on the paranormal.
