However, with a rich history, you can be sure that the paranormal will not be too far away and Corpus Christi certainly has its fair share of ghost stories to tell.

11 - Calallen High School

It is said that the elevator in the theatre department of Calallen High School is haunted. At night it apparently opens and closes all by itself and numerous engineers have declared that there is no discernible fault with the machinery.

Students staying late for extra curricular activities have actually witnessed this on a number of occasions and the custodians see it with some degree of regularity.

One of the janitors also claims to have seen the spirit of a teenage girl roaming around the school late at night when there would certainly be no students in the building!

This is why Calallen High School is considered to be one of the most haunted buildings in Corpus Christi.

10 - Del Mar College

There is one particular room in Del Mar College that is said to be particularly haunted and it is Room 222 of the Memorial Classroom Building on the East campus.

The custodial staff who work late shifts and the security staff have reported strange noises coming from the room including howling and laughter, but upon investigating there is never anybody inside!

There has been on occasion in particular where a security guard hear what sounded like furniture being moved around and went into the room only to find that it was indeed in disarray.

The building was locked down for the night and nobody else was in the building!

9 - The Center Theatre

The Center Theatre

The Center Theatre in Corpus Christi was opened in 1942. It is said to be haunted by the spirit of a woman who was murdered by her own husband during a performance at the theatre.

He apparently killed her as she left the ladies bathroom on the upper floor. If you go up to the seats at the top of the stairs, overlooking the stairs it is likely that you will encounter the woman’s spirit as this is where they were sitting that fateful night.

However, you will need to be on guard because she will not want you there and will do anything that she can to get you to leave.

This may include her making you very cold or simply giving you a good push.

If you do decide to tough it out then make sure that you do not cause a disturbance or she will focus her efforts on shutting you up!

8 - The Sidbury House

The Sidbury House

The Sidbury House is one of 12 historical properties within the Heritage Park Museum in Corpus Christi and it is said to be one of the most haunted houses in the area!

Visitors to the property have reported seeing the ghost of a child in the children’s bedrooms who is also responsible for knocking over objects in the house.

Some visitors have also reported witnessing dolls being moved or rearranged during their visits.

7 - Knights InnSTAY HERE

Haunted hotels are certainly nothing new, but often we expect them to be the older, more historic hotels rather than a pretty unobtrusive mid-price chain hotel.

However, one of the most haunted locations in Corpus Christi is the Knights Inn Hotel.

It is said to be haunted by the ghost of famous Tejano singer Selena who was fatally shot in the building.

She has never actually been seen, but guests say that they have heard her singing and can smell her signature scent of roses.

Those who hear and smell her say that they are also overcome with an intense feeling of sadness.

6 - The Galvan House

The Galvan House

The Galvan House is another one of the haunted buildings in the Heritage Park Museum. It is one of the oldest houses in the museum at well over 100 years old.

It now houses Corpus Christi’s cultural center which is responsible for all of the artistic and diversity events in town throughout the year.

In terms of the alleged haunting of the house, there is said to be a ghost on the second floor of The Galvan House who will tap visitors on the shoulder.

Visitors also say that they have heard phantom footsteps ascending the stairs to the attic while they are touring the house.

5 - Wilson Plaza

Wilson Plaza was built back in 1927 and it was originally called the Nixon Building. For quite some time now it has been recognized as a bit of a hotspot for paranormal activity and is considered to be one of the most locations places in Corpus Christi.

Witnesses who have encountered the ghostly goings on here say that they often feel as though they are not alone even if there is nobody else around.

Visitors have seen shadow figures and have heard a number of unexplained noises in the building.

The activity seems to happen mostly late at night or early in the morning.

The people who work in the offices in Wilson Plaza say that they have seen elevators stop randomly on floors where nobody has called them, doors opening and closing on their own and office doorknobs rattling by themselves.

4 - The Christian House Bistro

The Christian House Bistro is a restaurant situated within the Merriman-Bobys house which is part of the Heritage Park Museum in Corpus Christi.

It has been said that a female apparition in old-fashioned clothing complete with a big hat and fancy shoes comes out at night.

She has been seen on a number of occasions walking into the front door before promptly disappearing. It seems that nobody has ever seen this lady’s face, the ghost is only ever spotted from the back for some reason!

3 - Blackbeard’s On The Beach

Another one of the most haunted places in Corpus Christi is Blackbeard’s On The Beach. Nobody is really sure who it is that is haunting this beachfront restaurant.

A number of people have witnessed various different examples of paranormal activity including doors opening by themselves, salt shakers ‘jumping’ up and down on the tables, chairs moving on their own and a number of other harmless pranks.

On one occasion, an apparition was recorded walking around in the back dining area long after closing time. There are many who believe that the spirit is that of a man who was killed in a bar fight many years ago after getting into a brawl over a beautiful redhead!

It has also been suggested that alternatively, this could be the ghost of a different man who committed suicide just outside the restaurant after losing his beloved wife.

2 - Ward-McCampbell House

The Ward-McCampell House is the last of the Heritage Museum houses that we wanted to feature on our list of the most haunted locations in Corpus Christi.

This one is said to be haunted by the spirit of a girl known as Mary who passed away in the house after catching pneumonia.

She often stops tour guides from entering the building by blocking the entrance.

She has also been blamed for causing noises to try and disrupt tours and has a tendency to lock tour guides and guests out if they venture onto the patio.

1 - USS Lexington

USS Lexington

The USS Lexington is also known locally as the ‘Blue Ghost’ and it is rumored to be one of the most haunted places in Corpus Christi.

The bulk of the paranormal activity on board is attributed to the restless ghost of an engine room operator who was killed onboard during one of the many battles that the ship participated in.

However, this is by no means the only spirit that is lurking aboard the USS Lexington. During World War II there were several crewmembers of the crew who lost their lives when the vessel came under attack.

Visitors to the ship as well as some of the employees have described seeing apparitions, hearing doors slam and seeing lights going on or off all by themselves.

It is also fairly common to encounter random unexplained cold spots at various points on board the ship.
