Ghost Hunt Billie Creek Village w/ Haunted Rooms America
Sitting on 70 acres outside Rockville, Indiana, Billie Creek Village is a living history museum deeply connected to the past. The village’s 38 structures, filled with historical items, offer a glimpse of life from over a century ago. The movement you think you see out of the corner of your eye makes you question if you’re truly alone here. To answer that, no, you aren’t. Welcome to Billie Creek Village! It’s time to meet the residents!
Location History
Billie Creek Village began formation in 1964 by the residents of Parke County, Indiana. Officially opened in 1969, the village was named after nearby Williams Creek and comprises many historic buildings and artifacts from the area. These include three covered bridges: Beeson Covered Bridge, which survived two fires in 1979 and was relocated to Billie Creek Village; Billie Creek Covered Bridge, which was included in the village without needing relocation; and Leatherwood Station Covered Bridge, which was repaired and moved to the village.
In addition to the covered bridges, Billie Creek Village contains the 1830’s Besson-DePlanty Cabin, Billie Creek Village General Store, a pre-1900 post office that became Billie Creek Village Bank, a 1913 Schoolhouse, Dr. Rice’s mid-1800s office, an 1886 St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, the 1900’s Gaebler Building, and many more. Despite facing funding issues and being auctioned in 2012, the village reopened in 2014 and was sold in 2022. Plans are underway to use the location for events and festivals.
The Paranormal
The many buildings and structures of Billie Creek Village are filled with the energies of the past. Walk along Beeson Bridge, Billie Creek Bridge, or Leatherwood Station Bridge and see what spirits may wait to tell their stories of undocumented tragedies from a century ago. At Dr. Rice’s office, the building might be as busy in death as it was in life. You may find that the good doctor loved his profession so much that his spirit remains long after his death in 1857. Perhaps you’ll meet some patients who want to talk about their treatment at this historic medical clinic.
The 1913 schoolhouse served as a place of instruction and education for decades. Did the child who has been photographed in this building love his school so much that he just couldn’t bear to leave, even in death? Or does he look for someone willing to listen to a story of something more tragic?
Stroll into St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and take a seat. Will you find yourself in the middle of a mass that continues into the afterlife? Possibly. Or this may just be the place to have a quiet chat with any spirits who have taken residence in a place they see as comfortable and safe.
Billie Creek Village is imprinted with a mix of energies that have never left. The history of these buildings and stories of forgotten events have resulted in a true town of the dead. It’s up to you to find the clues and piece together the reasons these spirits are still tied to these buildings.
