A HANDS-ON PARANORMAL RESEARCH WORKSHOP INSIDE ONE OF OHIO’S MOST ACTIVE FORMER HEALTHCARE FACILITIES
Something is answering back inside Terrace View.
This massive 60,000+ square foot former nursing home and mental health facility sits high above the rolling hills of Millersburg, deep in Ohio’s Amish Country, and the activity unfolding inside its walls right now is unlike anything our team has encountered. Disembodied voices captured on audio. A wheelchair-bound figure gliding through corridors with no living occupant. Intelligent responses to direct questions through spirit communication devices, in real time, with investigators present.
And it’s getting stronger.
Built in 1958 and expanded significantly in 1981, Terrace View served as a long-term care facility for the elderly and those receiving mental health treatment for over five decades. Thousands of patients passed through these corridors. Hundreds of staff devoted their working lives within these walls, caring for the vulnerable through some of the most difficult chapters of their lives. When the facility finally closed in 2005, it left behind far more than medical records and abandoned equipment.
Everything we do inside Terrace View is guided by curiosity and deep respect for those who lived and worked here. Their stories form the foundation of our educational approach, because understanding the human history of a location is the first principle of ethical paranormal research.
3 South: The Locked Ward
Among the most compelling areas of the building is 3 South, a secure ward once used for patients requiring close supervision. Former staff remember the muted olive-green walls and reinforced windows, a reflection of mental health practices of the era. Night shift nurses reported faint conversations drifting through the hallways when every patient was accounted for. The steady rhythm of footsteps moving through corridors that should have been empty. Decades later, investigators document the same phenomena in the same wing, as though the ward itself refuses to fall silent.
The Basement
Known among former staff as “the dungeons,” a nickname born from its stark, utilitarian setting rather than what took place there, the basement level once housed patients needing the highest level of supervision. Staff working overnight spoke of chairs scraping across floors when no one was nearby. Whispers threading through the corridors. Distant cries long after the ward had gone quiet. One of the most persistent reports involved a steady scratching sound along the main hallway, a mystery that kept nurses wide awake through the early hours and has never been explained.
What Was Found Beneath the Rubble
After Terrace View closed, the building sat abandoned for over 20 years, surrendered to decay, vandalism, and neglect. When restoration work finally began and crews started clearing debris in the basement, they uncovered something no one expected: ritual symbols and animal remains hidden beneath layers of rubble and construction materials.
What took place in those spaces during two decades of abandonment remains unknown, but it adds a darker and deeply unsettling layer to an already complex location.
A Building That Responds to Attention
The current restoration effort has produced an extraordinary development. As teams work to repair and preserve the building after more than two decades of neglect, paranormal activity has intensified dramatically across both the original 1958 structure and the 1981 addition. The correlation between restoration and escalating phenomena is one of the most compelling aspects of studying this location. Whether the work has disturbed dormant energy, provoked a response from something grateful for the attention, or simply opened up spaces that were previously inaccessible, the evidence continues to mount with each passing month.
Documented Phenomena at Terrace View
Disembodied voices throughout the building, particularly female voices consistent with former nurses or patients. A wheelchair-bound apparition seen moving through corridors. The figure of a woman standing motionless in a second-floor window. Doors opening and closing on their own with no draft, no structural shift, and no one nearby.
During structured communication sessions, investigators have recorded intelligent, real-time responses to direct questions. Sudden, measurable temperature drops occur in specific zones with no environmental explanation. Footsteps echo through empty hallways and, most unsettlingly, within the same room where investigators stand motionless. Objects are found relocated between investigation sessions.
One of the most striking examples of intelligent activity involved mimicry behavior. The distinct sound of a dog collar jingling was captured during an investigation, replicating the caretaker’s service dog, who was confirmed to be asleep and stationary at the time. This suggests a presence capable of observing and reproducing sounds from its environment in real time.
The Mad Walker
Among the most prominent presences documented at Terrace View is an entity investigators have come to know as the Mad Walker. His heavy footsteps are heard patrolling the building at all hours, moving through corridors and between floors as though conducting rounds.
What makes the Mad Walker particularly unusual is his apparent authority over the other spirits that reside here. During communication sessions, he has been recorded issuing direct threats to other entities, as if enforcing control over the location itself. Whether he is protecting the building, guarding something within it, or simply refusing to relinquish dominance over a place he considers his own remains one of the most compelling open questions at Terrace View.
Your Experience
This is a structured, hands-on paranormal research workshop inside a location that is actively producing some of the most compelling evidence we have encountered. You will receive direct instruction on professional investigation equipment and methodology, learn how to conduct controlled communication sessions, and apply those techniques across Terrace View’s three floors and two wings under the guidance of experienced researchers. Historical context and ethical research practices are woven throughout the evening, because understanding where you are and who once lived here is inseparable from the work itself.
Terrace View is not a location that has finished revealing what it holds. Activity continues to escalate as restoration progresses, and every session produces new data. For those serious about paranormal research, this is a rare opportunity to study a site in the middle of an awakening, where the evidence is growing stronger, not fading.

Reviews
Just finished our VIP overnight at Hotel Metropolitan in Paducah! Ms. Venita and Julie were the absolute best! They both made sure we knew what we were doing with equipment, and gave us a fantastic guided tour and explained the history so well. Venita especially made an impression on my group. She is super friendly and definitely knows what she's doing. Can't wait to see her again! I wouldn't want anyone else!
My dad, my sister-in-law, and I stayed at The Metropolitan for a paranormal investigation, and it was truly an unforgettable experience. The atmosphere was warm, inviting, and full of history — but what made our stay exceptional was the incredible staff, Julie and Venita. These two amazing women went above and beyond the entire time we were there. They walked us through all the investigation equipment, helped guide us throughout the night, and made us feel completely comfortable and right at home. Their hospitality was top-notch — from the snacks and drinks they provided to the delicious hot chocolate they made for us during our late-night exploring. Their kindness, patience, and passion for what they do turned our stay into something truly special. If you’re looking for a place filled with charm, comfort, and staff who genuinely care, The Metropolitan Hotel is the perfect choice. Our overnight stay exceeded every expectation. Highly recommend! I wouldn't want anyone else to tour with!! 👻✨🍫
My son and I went to belles grove plantation and it was the best time! We enjoyed everything! Miss V was great! We got a few pictures of something in the windows and I actually started crying which I NEVER would let my son see me cry! It was kinda spooky but awesome at the same time! The team is great and I highly recommend going on one of their tours! Thank u all for a great experience
