Old Cowtown Museum Ghost Hunts
A location with an incredible paranormal reputation from its collection of original buildings and artefacts from the late 1800s!
With a collection of over 20 original and 30+ restored buildings from the 1800s and thousands of artefacts from that time, it’s little wonder that there are still those stuck around from that period.
With so many haunted buildings and paranormal reports, it isn’t easy to know where to begin. Perhaps the most famous haunted location on this historic site is the former home of Colonel Marshall M. Murdock, founder of the Wichita City Eagle newspaper.
His former home, named The Murdock House, has a considerable amount of hauntings. As with many homes from this time period, they saw many young deaths, with an almost 50% mortality rate for children during this time. The Murdocks were no exception, with four of their eight children tragically dying, three of which died before the age of one, with the eight-year-old Love’n Tangle Murdock dying of spinal meningitis in 1883.
Love ’n Tangle’s obituary states, “the week preceding her demise was one of terrible suffering.” Love ‘n Tangle’s funeral service was held in the Murdock House.
Some common reports here tell of a child ghost hiding in the dark corners of the home and peeping out from behind furniture. Visitors and staff members frequently see the apparition of a young girl with pigtails looking out from the upstairs window. A taller shadow has also been seen standing on the staircase in this house, and disembodied voices are often heard.
Another of the more well known haunted hotspots on this overwhelming site is the Blacksmiths shop. Here guests are often poked and prodded, and things have been thrown. Throughout the site, shadow figures have been spotted staring out of the empty shop’s windows.
The are countless other paranormal stories with lights turning on and off in unoccupied buildings, levitating candles and curtains rustling, even though there’s no breeze.
A ghost hunt at the Old Cowtown Museum will certainly keep us busy! Are you ready to take this foreboding venue on with us in the dead of night?
