As Seen on Travel Channel’s Ghost Adventures

Built in 1911, this old English Tudor-style inn has seen a rich, colorful, and sometimes dark and seedy history.

With tales of prostitution and murder during prohibition, the Glen Tavern is fascinating from a historical perspective. However, the Tavern’s paranormal aspect interests us, with reports of full-bodied apparitions and ghostly children, to name but a few…

Glen Tavern Inn Ghosts

Several ghosts are known to roam the Glen Tavern Inn in Santa Paula, CA.

Room 307 is renowned for having two ghosts, Calvin and the prostitute. He has often been seen in this room and also the lobby.

People have said Calvin’s appearance is tall and thin, wearing a white shirt, and having long hair and a goatee. He is often captured in pictures and has been seen walking through walls.

It is understood that a cowboy that could be Calvin was shot and killed during a game of cards back when the 3rd floor was used as a gambling den.

A western-style hat was discovered behind one of the walls during a recent renovation, with what looked like two bullet holes and what looked like old bloodstains.

The other ghost that frequents room 307 is an unknown woman believed to have been a prostitute who was murdered, and some say beheaded. Her body was left in the closet for one unfortunate maid to find. A mist has been seen, voices heard, sudden cold chills, and knocks.

The apparition of a child has often been seen running through the corridors. On one occasion, a couple reported what they believed to be a real young girl walking into their room (205) in the middle of the night.

Workers during a renovation saw a young girl running down the corridor and through a wall. The sound of young children laughing, running up and down staircases, and knocking on doors is also heard.

Glen Tavern Inn History

Built back in 1911, when Santa Paula became a booming oil town, the Glen Tavern Inn is now a Federal landmark. With over 100 years of history, the inn has gone through many tumultuous times. After prohibition was introduced, the inn suffered. Its 3rd floor later became a speakeasy, brothel, and gambling parlor.

During Hollywood’s golden era, many stars of the past stopped by the Glen Tavern, including John Wayne, Harry Houdini, Steve McQueen, and Clark Gable.
